Ryzen 5000: AMD Unveils New Zen 3 Processor Line, With "World's Best Gaming Processor"

AMD ZEN 3 ARCHITECTURE

AMD promised it, and AMD is doing it. The company took advantage of its Where Gaming Begins conference to say more about its new AMD Zen 3 architecture which will be used first with processors for desktop PCs, then laptops.

AMD ZEN 3 ARCHITECTURE

The Zen 3 architecture is not meant to be a revolution, but a concrete evolution of what AMD has offered with Zen 2. We therefore still have use of TSMC's 7nm manufacturing process.

The brand says it was able to increase the number of instructions per clock cycle by 19%, while allowing the Boost frequency to rise higher. Engineers also revised how the cache works to create a single L3 cache volume instead of two, which can be used by all cores. All of this should translate into an increase in performance per watt of 24%.

For a new manufacturing process, we will have to wait until AMD Zen 4, which should arrive in 2021 and will be engraved in 5 nm.

THE NEW RANGE OF PROCESSORS

AMD has unveiled the following line of processors.

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X: 6 cores, 12 threads, 3.7 GHz, up to 4.6 GHz with 35MB L2 + L3 cache and 65W TDP

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X: 8 cores, 16 threads, 3.8 GHz, up to 4.7 GHz with 36MB L2 + L3 cache and 105W TDP

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X: 12 cores, 24 threads, 3.7 GHz, up to 4.8 GHz with 70MB L2 + L3 cache and 105W TDP

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X: 16 cores, 32 threads, 3.4 GHz, up to 4.9 GHz with 72MB L2 + L3 cache and 105W TDP

The company does not hesitate to compare the performance of its Ryzen 9 5900X with the Intel Core i9 10900K processor and to announce a gain of 1 to 21% depending on the games tested. We will not fail to notice the exception of Battlefield V where the AMD processor is placed behind that of Intel. On stage, Lisa Su, the boss of AMD, announced that the Ryzen 9 5950X was quite simply "the best gaming processor in the world." We will have to wait for press tests to be sure.
